Greensense Corner3M as a corporate leader in environmental citizenship, is concerned about the environmental impact of the products we manufacture. It is important to us, as well as to the environment, that those of our products which can be recycled are recycled. Single Use Cameras are one of those products. Help preserve our environment by returning to us the cameras you receive for processing. Please send only 3M cameras, for we do not know what materials other manufacturers use, just as they do not know what type materials we use. We will refund all freight charges and packing material costs along with $.05 for each camera you return to us for recycling. It's a great incentive for doing your part for the environment. Enclosed is an updated form and instructions for recycling 3M Single Use Cameras. If you have any questions or comments related to our recycling program, call us at 800/233-8579.

Labline "Training Series" Part ThreeEarlier this year, 3M conducted a blind survey of over 150 minilabs in various cities throughout the United States. Each lab processed two rolls of film which had been exposed with special scenes and a density wedge. The processed film and prints were then studied and evaluated at 3M in St. Paul. One of the most significant findings was the variability found between the film and paper processors in the group. Process control ranged from very good control to totally out of control. This data indicates that lab product quality could be greatly improved in many labs through closer monitoring of the processes. Starting with this issue, the LabLine "Training Series" will focus on Process Quality Control. It will be a four part series which will cover such topics as; understanding the process, processing factors, process monitoring and film and paper process troubleshooting. Additional copies of this and all "Training Series" issues are available by calling our Technical Service Helpline at 800/233-8579 between the hours of 7:45 AM and 4:30 PM Central Time.
Your Question Answered:
I noticed that on the top edge of 3M manufactured film are the characters "3M*A" and others have "3M*F." Does this indicate that these are two different generations of 3M film?During the film packaging process 3M exposes identification marks on the top and bottom edges of the film. The generation is indicated by the DX Code, which in the illustration, above right, is 66-10. Each new generation of film will be assigned a new DX Code. The 3M*"A" (see illustration) is an internal manufacturing code we use to track the film once out in the consumer markets. The "3M*" may be followed by the letter "A, B, D, E or F". This letter does not have any relation to film generations.
